The Barrow - 7’23, colour, sound, Ireland, 2008
From a bridge over the River Barrow in Ireland, the camera is directed toward the sluggishly drifting water below. A dull, opaque film covers the rust-coloured water, rich in iron, upon which the sun is reflected when it breaks through rifts in the clouds.
Underground currents, wind, and the constantly shifting sunlight play together to create ever- changing patterns and impressions on the water's surface.
Heavy trucks rumble across the bridge; freight trains switch tracks at a nearby station;
a helicopter circles overhead.
The weaving, entwining wave movements on the water's surface seem to mingle with the surrounding sound-waves of civilization.
